With the hectic pace of our days and the curricular demands that we have to meet in our classrooms today we do not have as many opportunities to have each child shine and share what makes them special. To help us get to know one other and give each student a time to shine, each child in our class will have an opportunity to be our VIP of the Week. During this time, each day of the week will consist of an exciting event or activity to honor him or her. A link to the schedule for this is posted at the bottom of this page. I will send home an "All About Me" Poster a week in advance of your child's scheduled VIP week. This will allow them time to work on it before it is their time to share. Please see the outline below for an explanation of what each day will consist of when your child is VIP of the Week.
Monday: Share "All About Me" Poster during morning meeting time
Students will share the poster they completed the week prior and answer questions from classmates.
Tuesday: Favorite Book
The VIP of the Week brings one of his or her books to either read to the class or sit with me as I read it to the class. If the book cannot be read in 15 minutes or less the students should be prepared to do a "Book Talk" in which they share what the story is about and why it is their favorite book.
Wednesday: Parent Letter
Parents will write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class at class meeting. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from the following ideas: Describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a silly or serious poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send silly or special pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character. You may also send a video for the class to watch if you choose.
Thursday: Lunch Buddy
If possible, join your child in the cafeteria for a special lunch together. You may also choose to invite a sibling or a relative to be your child’s lunch buddy. You can have the buddy be a surprise or let your child know ahead of time. If you are unable to make it during our lunch period (11:15-11:45), please let me know, and I will plan a special lunch time for your child.
Friday: Student Recognition
The student will be affirmed and recognized by their classmates with positive comments on a VIP poster that the child will be able to take home.
*Please Note…The events planned for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday can be swapped in order to accommodate your personal schedules. If you cannot make it to eat lunch with your child during their VIP week, please let me know in advance and I will eat lunch with your child sometime that week.
In addition, if you would like to come in to be a guest reader at any time during your child's VIP week please let me know. We would love to have you come in and I will find a time that works with your schedule.
